We are delighted to see a second Fairy Door Trail made by Norwich Men’s Shed installed on Cary’s Meadow, on the Broads National Park this April as part of Natural Wonder. With new designs, new poems and stories by children at Henderson Green Primary School exploring biodiversity in Norfolk, there are new locations near hibernaculums on the meadow – created to to nurture reptiles and amphibians such as slow worms.
We have a Spring Art Prize for children aged 2-11, to take part, exploring biodiversity, with the chance to win nature inspired books and eco friendly art materials. Imagine you are a fairy that might live behind our fairy doors, what nature might you come across as part of your day?
I’m visiting schools and presenting on wildflowers and wildlife that you might spot if a fairy flying through the Norfolk landscape, from across the Broads National Park, to the coast, to support this prize and have a presentation suitable for reception up to lower KS2 – with a focus on biodiversity wildflower and wildlife identification, plus habitats. Species included in the presentation include the beavers that have recently been reintroduced to the Wensum Valley by the Norfolk Rivers Trust (read more about these busy beavers here https://norfolkriverstrust.org/beavers/), plus slow worms, eel and swallowtail butterfly. You can also spot star fish!
It comes with a new poem as part of my Arts Council England supported series, Natural Wonder, naming wildflowers, from dandelions to wild primrose – ‘Happiness Is Growing In A Field’, inspired by the wellbeing benefits of nature and restorative ecology.
