Lovely to see lots of happy children from the Holt Community Primary School with fairy doors they designed with Norwich Men’s Shed in the North Norfolk News this week as part of a new Natural Wonder fairy door trail in Holt. Read tree inspired poems giving thanks to trees written on a workshop with me by children at Fakenham Juniors, with quotes from the poems inside the doors. Plus there’s a new poem from my series ‘The Owl Fairies of Holt’ inspired by owl sounds and sightings from residents in Holt and surrounding areas, supported by Arts Council England – to help encourage biodiversity learning on owls. You can also see and add to the tree inspired poems at Fakenham Library throughout June with leaves made from recycled paper on an installation kindly made from reclaimed wood by Norwich Men’s Shed. As part of a creative writing workshop with me the children learned about activist, writer and scientist Rachel Carson, as well as Norfolk writers including Anna Sewell and her aunt Caroline Wright who were inspired by the natural world. We discussed tree planting projects such as the Miyawaki urban forest planting projects in North Norfolk and their role in the fight against climate change. We fused outdoor learning with trees, to write the poems, to support literacy.
The children have done a brilliant job giving thanks to trees and spreading the magic of nature.
