It’s a pleasure to be back at the National Centre for Writing, helping a new cohort of young people supported by Norfolk Arts Trust prepare to report on Norwich Science Festival this month. It’s amazing how often science influences culture – and vice versa, so we are kickstarting our training by looking at inspiring things scientists have said. As well as writing our own thoughts, on what the art of science actually is. I love what festival patron, wildlife biologist and TV presenter Lizzie Daly says, about the power of science communications to inspire change.
‘Making wildlife content is always great in that I really enjoy trying to inspire others about the natural world however when you see change that’s really rewarding.’
Like great art, it’s no good innovating in isolation – it’s all about communicating these brilliant ideas to create change, insight and understanding. The festival is a fantastic way to make science accessible to a broad audience, with nine days of events for all ages – from exhibitions, a periodic table trail, to talks, workshops and conferences.
