I’ve long been influenced by Yoko Ono and had the pleasure of interviewing her for an exhibition celebrating World Peace Day, in a pop up art space in a disused office block in Cambridge, in 2010. ‘Can art really change the world’, I asked her? ‘YES!’ she replied.
It’s a little known fact that 50 years ago, Yoko Ono and John Lennon’s first ever public performance was given in Cambridge, at Lady Mitchell Hall in West Cambridge. You can hear an audio installation of their performance together, ‘1969’ – in the entrance hall of the Hall, as part of YOKO ONO:LOOKING FOR. Earlier this year, a plaque celebrating their appearing together, was unveiled there, too.
