So delighted with these fantastic poems made by children at Henderson Green Primary Academy after my visit on National Poetry Day. We’ve turned them into a giant Poet-Tree installation of 150 leaf poems that’s on show for the Tree Council’s National Tree Week. Teachers used a simple-to-use resource from my Natural Wonder Inspiration Kit to help create a tree inspired poem, with resulting poems written out onto a leaf template. The tree poem sheet has simple prompts encouraging wellbeing, nature connection, gratitude and the art of dendrography. It’s also useful for direct speech, similes and metaphors – KS2 English Language/Literature curriculum learning outcomes. For younger years, a simple focus on phonetics, rhyming or describing words works too.
We also started plans for tree planting on the beautiful school grounds to happen this tree planting season as part of a John Muir Award with https://www.johnmuirtrust.org/
Thanks to Arts Council England and all the children and brilliant children and staff at Henderson Green. The poems will be archived on https://wondernatural.co.uk/
Future leaf poems and creative works can be shared on my new pop up tree installation made from reclaimed wood made in collaboration with Norwich Men’s Shed, thanks to National Lottery Funding.
