Women In Art are friendly creative writing courses and workshops suitable for writers of all backgrounds to support writing in response to women in art – all genders welcome. From women artists to muses, in these relaxed classes we will look at creative work by women artists and the stories of women to inspire our own poetry, fiction and creative works. We will explore the influences of gender fluidity, politics look at national and international collections and current major shows for inspiration.
We’ll also look at examples of literature inspired by women in art and fun creative writing techniques we can apply to our own writing. Cake and tea at each session.
Thanks to support from the Women’s Art Library at Goldsmiths University for these sessions and to Whitechapel Gallery for use of this installation view (image below) at ‘Action. Gesture. Paint. Women in Global Abstraction, 1940-1970‘ Helen Frankenthaler, ‘April Mood’ (1974). There are also suggested reading lists and gallery visits, plus an opportunities to share some of the work produced on the course at an exhibition in Oxford in Spring 2024, exploring the life and work of Sophie Gaudier-Brzeska (1872-1925).
