Writing Success Sessions At The Feed Social Supermarket
Lovely to start teaching writing classes at The Feed’s Social Supermarket in Norwich on Thursday mornings for children aged 11-16. These writing success sessions have an Autumn theme, but are also open to children to bring longer pieces they can work on each week – from comic stories to mysteries, articles, to reviews.
This morning we wrote cinquain poems inspired by the Autumn Equinox, funny collaborative stories inspired by Autumn words and discussed how we use writing and what we’d like to write more of. We’ll be looking at Persuasive Writing – from letters to essays, plus we will be celebrating National Poetry Day together on October 5th!
We loved a collaborative writing activity inspired by The Literacy Trust’s Writing for Pleasure resources this morning which I adapted to add a little laughter (create an Autumn inspired character by combining two Autumn words you wouldn’t normally see together that sound hilarious).

Norfolk Open Studios
My new shared workspace at Lionhouse Studios is taking part in Norfolk Open Studios from September 23rd – 8th October. You can find a range of sculpture, photography, installation, textiles and paintings at the studios – a really supportive hub of artists.
I wrote there while working on a commission from the National Centre for Writing – Art Is The Fire Warming Our Hands in 2022. It was the perfect space to work on the socially engaged poem, exploring the value of art on the frontline of communities and inspired by encounters with art from all over the world and the UK’s East coast arts community.
My pink typewriter installation is in the foyer of the studio block as you come in via the front entrance, with recent poetry funded by Arts Council England.
