Such an inspiration to have a new poem in this brilliant show at the Fairway Gallery in Oxford University Press, curated by Ania Ready. Fascinating work and so inspiring to see such diverse and provocative work in response to Polish writer Sophie Gaudier-Bzreska – exploring not just her own life, but themes of dissidence, oppression and social exclusion.
Inspiring pieces by writers on Women In Art are also exhibited at the show – Sue Saunders, Teresa Smith and Gehrett Ellis. My poem You Don’t Need A Manifesto To Begin is a poster style text inspired by ideas of friendship, solidarity and creativity empowering women, written after exploring Bzreska’s life and modern day reimaginings of muses by US artist Mickalene Thomas.

Edited to share that Gehrett Ellis sadly passed away in July 2024 – his brilliant short text remains part of the We Also Fight Windmills group show which has been on tour to various spaces in 2024 and will reappear next spring 2025.
